Hurricane Season Is Only Going to Cause More Problems for BP

Meteorologists are predicting an especially busy hurricane season this summer and this, in combination with the largest oil spill in U.S. history, is likely to only add to BP’s headaches (good thing everything else has been going so well for them!). Scientists have said the storms could either move the oil along the water’s surface (bad for the shoreline!) or mix the oil with the water, causing it to sink (bad for marine life!). Additionally, weather experts said the black oil could heat the water faster and accelerate the formation of hurricanes, which would create a “storm surge” and add to the mess. (One optimistic scientist said there’s a possibility the oil could instead slow the growth of storms, as the oil could actually reduce the amount of evaporated ocean water that fuels hurricanes.) So: No one really knows what’s going to happen when the hurricanes come but, unsurprisingly, it probably won’t be good!
