John Boehner Wants Paul McCartney to Apologize for Cracking the 10 Millionth Bush Joke

While at the White House on Wednesday to perform and accept the Library of Congress’s Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, Paul McCartney made a joke about George W. Bush’s lack of intellectual curiosity.

It’s a fantastic honor (for) the Gershwin family to give me this incredible award and for me to be awarded it by the Library of Congress. And in fact, after the last eight years, it’s great to have a president who knows what a library is.”

Now John Boehner, the Republican leader in the House of Representatives, wants him to apologize. “I hope he’ll apologize to the American people for his conduct, which demeaned him, the White House and President Obama,” he said in a statement. Furthermore, Boehner’s spokesman points out that Laura Bush was a librarian, so McCartney’s joke wasn’t even factually accurate like all other jokes. Now who hasn’t been to a library, Paul?
