Tensions between the United States and Venezuela have been high for years. But until last night, never has our testy relationship with our South American adversary seemed so … beautiful. That’s because we’ve never before heard it expressed in song, as Venezuela president Hugo Chavez did last night during a television and radio address in front of a large, adoring crowd (dress code: red). According to the BBC, Chavez sang the words, “I’m not loved by Hillary Clinton … and I don’t love her either,” which is a reference to a “popular song” there. The crowd loved it, and not just because anti-Americanism is like crack to them the man has the voice of a nightingale.
