Obama: ‘Best Way to Help’ Is Visit Gulf and Spend

Barack Obama, who will address the nation from the Oval Office Tuesday evening and meet with BP executives at the White House Wednesday, said Monday that if Americans want to offer help to the Gulf states afflicted by the BP oil spill, they should, um, mosey on down to the affected region for a vacation!

There’s still a lot of opportunity for visitors to come down here. There are a lot of beaches that have not been affected and will not be affected,” Obama said. “If people want to help, the best way to help is to come down here and visit.”

The president met with Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal and Mississippi governor Haley Barbour, who both reiterated Obama’s point, Barbour claiming that those infamous Mississippi beaches remain pristine. And hey, there promises to be way less traffic down there than at the Hamptons.
