ground zero mosque

Newt Gingrich Willing to Allow Mosque in New York If It’s 80 Blocks Away From Ground Zero

Newt Gingrich, who took a “let’s follow Saudi Arabia’s lead on religious freedom” stance on the ground zero mosque last week, is still sharing his opinions about where the Muslims should be allowed to gather in New York City, because for some reason people keep asking him. It’s not that he has anything against mosques, see, it’s just this particular mosque’s two-block proximity to ground zero. So how close is too close? Five blocks? Ten blocks?

I favor religious freedom. I’m quite happy if they’d come in and said, ‘We want to build a community center near Central Park, we’d like to build a community center near Columbia University.’ But they didn’t. They said right at the edge of a place where, let’s be clear, thousands of Americans were killed in an attack by radical Islamists.”

So what we’re looking at here is a mosque-free zone with about an 80-block radius. Anything closer than that is just insulting to America.
