Senate to Pass Jobless-Aid Extension Tuesday

When Democratic senator Carte Goodwin officially replaces the late Robert Byrd Tuesday morning, the Senate’s Democrat contingent will have enough votes to be able to pass the measure extending unemployment benefits. Earlier Monday, Obama criticized the filibuster, claiming “a partisan minority has used parliamentary maneuvers to block a vote,” and accusing Republicans who have argued jobless benefits will reward laziness of having a “lack of faith in the American people.” House Minority Leader John Boehner fired back that the president’s statement was a “disingenuous attack,” and criticized the spending without simultaneous budget cuts.
