Obama Signs $26 Billion Jobs Bill, Saves Teacher Jobs

Today, the president signed into law a $26 billion measure that will save the jobs of approximately 160,000 teachers across the country, and also portends to create and save positions for police officers, firefighters, and nurses, Democratic leaders said. Republicans have called the bill — which includes $10 billion for teacher positions and $16 billion for covering state Medicaid payments — an “irresponsible union giveaway” that will hurt efforts for an eventual economic recovery.
