Courtney Love always wanted to be a writer, she told Intel at the New Yorkers for Children gala last night. Of course, she writes lyrics for her songs. And epically long text messages. “I’m the Tolstoy of text,” Love said. “I never do, ‘C U later.’ And no one has the time, so people get my text and they read the first line.” The rocker also writes poetry, and has even on occasion submitted a poem to publications (with limited success). Her poems are sometimes lengthy, as well. “I’m a lyricist, and I do Homeric lyrics, like 60 or 80 pages sometimes,” she said. For example? “There’s one song that didn’t even make the record called ‘Sunset Marquis,’ about a hotel that I stayed in when I was banned from the Chateau Marmont.” “Banned,” she repeated. “Banned. Banned.”
But Love really wants to write short stories and get them published. “It’s time for me to go more public,” she said. “I have to get it together and finish this damn story that The New Yorker, by the way, does not know is coming. They may reject me, I don’t know. But I’m aiming for that. And I want to be published. It’s time — I’m 46.”
