Bloomberg Businessweek executive editor and former New York editorial director Hugo Lindgren will be the next editor of New York Times Magazine, John Koblin reports. He’ll take over for outgoing editor Gerry Marzorati, who was booted upstairs over the summer. Times executive editor Bill Keller and his team spent the summer examining a series of external and internal candidates, reportedly first offering the gig to New Yorker features editor Daniel Zalewski before settling on Lindgren. It won’t be Lindgren’s first tenure at the Times Magazine — he previously helped create its “The Way We Live Now” section with Ariel Kaminer. The amiable Lindgren will have his work cut out for him charming his team in the new gig — sources tell us that staff morale is not particularly high coming off the end of Marzorati’s reign.

Update: Keller has sent out a memo confirming the appointment. “We have considered strong candidates within the paper and without, and enjoyed much discussion of what this journalistic treasure should be in its next incarnation … The search took longer than I anticipated because there were so many credible candidates, but I could not be happier about the outcome,” Keller writes. “Hugo will move in October 25.”
