Report: Illegal Immigration to U.S. Decreasing in Recent Years

According to a new Pew Hispanic Center report, the number of illegal immigrants into America has dropped significantly since 2007, with the dismal U.S. job market cited as the reason for the decrease. The study found that an estimated 300,000 fewer people annually have entered the country illegally since 2007. “The decline contributed to a contraction in the overall size of the undocumented population to 11 million people in March 2009 from a peak of 12 million two years earlier,” the Journal explains. The release comes the same week as the first of the Obama-authorized National Guardsmen descend upon the Arizona-Mexico border; the number of drones conducting surveillance on the border will double by January 1, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitan announced Monday.
