Rescue Drill Reaches Trapped Chilean Miners

Sixty-five days later, a rescue drill has reached the 33 Chilean miners who are trapped nearly half a mile underground, eating ice cream and watching The Mask. Upon hearing the news, the crowds camped out by the mine began chanting “Viva Chilean miners!” Family members of the trapped men said they felt “tranquil,” while the miners themselves were reportedly “going crazy” when they saw the drill. Still, the actual release could be days away, and Chileans have been warned that the rescue mission is now entering “its most dangerous phase.” Chilean President Sebastian Piñera reportedly plans to “personally hug each of the miners” — and not a few weeks later, but actually while they are pulled from the rescue shaft. So they have that to look forward to.
