Someone Is Willing to Buy the Boston Globe

The New York Times Company bought the Boston Globe in 1993 for $1.1 billion. When they tried to sell it last year, offers were in the $35 million ballpark and they pulled it off the market, where it has sat ever since. But today, a greeting-card executive named Aaron Kushner made a big, vague announcement: He had wrangled a dozen investors to form a group named the 2100 trust, which would “submit a letter of intent to purchase The New England Media Company, including The Boston Globe and all
its associated properties from the New York Times Company.”

The press release said the group was willing to make a long-term investment, and Kushner told the Globe that he saw the paper as a pillar of the community that wasn’t “achieving its potential.” The Times Company did not comment.
