Mike Huckabee Does Not Want to Be a Stale Loaf of Bread

With former Godfather pizza CEO Herman Cain the only Republican so far to officially announce any intention to run for president, the 2012 campaign season has gotten off to a noticeably delayed start compared to 2008. Which is fine — there’s no logical reason a presidential campaign needs to drag on for nearly two years. And the prospective GOP candidates seem to recognize that they don’t gain much from jumping in early. In fact, Mike Huckabee, who leads the field of potential candidates according to some polls, now says he won’t make a decision on whether to run until this summer, months after the first debates have been held. He told Fox News this morning that when a candidate is “out there for too long a period of time,” he eventually becomes a “stale loaf of bread on the shelf, and it’s very difficult to make your message fresh.” Yep, wouldn’t want those fresh ideas, like his opposition to gay adoption and his denial of evolution, to get stale.
