First Republican Primary Debate Postponed Due to Complete Lack of Candidates

NBC News and Politico thought they were being crafty back in January when they scheduled a debate for May 2, making it the first of the primary season. What they didn’t count on is that, in this late-developing campaign, there would be nobody to put on stage. No major candidates have officially declared themselves to be running yet, and Tim Pawlenty is the only candidate who polls over one percent to have formed an exploratory committee. So this morning, the Ronald Reagan Foundation, which was also hosting the debate, announced that it was being postponed until September. So now we have to wait an extra three days for the season’s first debate, hosted by Fox News in South Carolina on May 5. Hopefully Tim Pawlenty won’t be the most exciting guy on stage.
