Media CEOs Got a Big Fat Raise Last Year

A study of the median pay for the CEOs of 350 major companies shows an 11 percent jump from 2009 to 2010 to $9.3 million. Whereas 2009 pay was flat for the top boss, the corporate boards of the largest U.S. companies handsomely rewarded their leaders for strong profits and an uptick in share price. The study, conducted by the Hay Group for The Wall Street Journal, reported that the biggest increase came via bonuses, which grew 19.7 percent. Media companies took four of the top spots, with Viacom CEO Phillippe Dauman topping the list at $84.3 million (double his 2009 salary), and CBS honcho Les Moonves coming in at No. 3 with $53.8 million. Rupert Murdoch’s $16.5 million compensation also made the list, though down at No. 52, but he declined to comment to his own paper.
