What Do Leonardo DiCaprio and Steve Cohen Have in Common?

Leonardo DiCaprio and billionaire Steve Cohen don't seem to overlap on many Venn diagrams. Leo's a movie star who loves the Lakers, Cohen is a cutthroat hedge-funder whose firm has been subpoenaed in an insider-trading case and likes the Mets. They would probably get divergent responses on HotorNot.com. But both men were involved with a lively art sale at Christie’s last night for the start of auction season. Leo, who hid under a navy blue baseball cap and sat next to Lukas Haas, was bidding on a couple Picassos. Cohen was selling a Vlaminck landscape that he's owned since 2002. Leo was outbid and had to settle for plunking down $1.2 million for Dali to go along with a Basquiat he already owns. Cohen's painting sold for $22.5 million, a record price for a Vlaminck auction. Cohen is also planning on selling a Warhol of Elizabeth Taylor next week, possibly to help fund his bid for a stake of the Mets, the team he rooted for as a kid. Two very different dudes, united by a quest for status symbols.
