Alec Baldwin: Look, Anthony Weiner Was BUSY, Okay?

Ever since the peak of Weinergate earlier this week, there has been (admittedly low-level) buzz that Alec Baldwin might take the opening he’s been waiting for and run for mayor. But today the 30 Rock star came out with a thoughtful semi-defense of the disgraced congressman:

My thought on Weiner is that he is a very busy man. Like most, although not all, politicians, he probably spends a great deal of time going to meetings, raising campaign funds and seizing upon every opportunity to remind people of how great he is as a public servant and a human being. It’s exhausting. He exists under a constant pressure cooker of self-analysis and public appraisal. Like other politicians, he needs something to take the edge off.

Baldwin’s made his share of public mistakes, so he sort of knows how Anthony is feeling, I guess. Still, I’d sort of rather know what Jack Donaghy would say about all this. In fact, I would definitely have traded that for having to read this sentence from Alec Baldwin: “Appointment sex with your spouse doesn’t always arrive when you need it most.”
