Anthony Weiner Not Sure If That’s His Wiener [Updated]

After yesterday’s disastrous, evasive run-in with the press, Anthony Weiner has finally decided to open up a bit about the growing controversy regarding a photo of a man’s bulge sent to a college girl from his Twitter account over the weekend. In his sit-down with MSNBC’s Luke Russert this afternoon, Weiner was unable to definitively clarify many of this saga’s hazier issues, but he did drop some hints that will likely only feed new theories as to what really happened. The big takeaway: While maintaining that he was the victim of a prank and never sent the photo, Weiner couldn’t say for sure whether or not the underwear-ensconced genitalia featured in the photo was his own.

So that means it’s his, right? But he didn’t send it? Someone else accessed a preexisting photo of Weiner’s junk? Honestly, this is all just too strange to really piece together a plausible-sounding explanation.

Update: Weiner also talked with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer this afternoon, where he was still unable to state whether the photo shows his own bulge. “It certainly doesn’t look familiar to me, but I don’t want to say with certitude to you something that I don’t know to be the certain truth.” He also tried to further downplay the incident, referring to the photo as “spam.”

Update II: Weiner’s getting it from all sides now. Politico’s Ben Smith reports that a Democratic leadership aide isn’t happy with his not-exactly-helpful cable appearances today, and that Weiner’s fellow New York Democrats, somewhat jealous of his media stardom, are feeling quite a bit of schadenfreude.
