The singer has asked the Republican presidential candidate — who possibly only listened to the part of the song that’s about being female and American — to stop using it in her campaign. Politico serves up a nice bit of spin for the Bachmann campaign (“It would be another way in which a GOP candidate could compare themselves to Ronald Reagan, who Bruce Springsteen called out for using “Born in the USA” as a campaign song”). But there’s a more recent, less successful Republican who got into hot water for his soundtrack: the John McCain campaign was asked to back off by a whole host of artists, including the Foo Fighters, Van Halen, and Frankie Valli — when the guy from the Four Seasons is too cool for you, maybe it’s time to worry.
