With Gay-Marriage Argument, ‘Government Takeover’ Jumps the Shark

The lone State Senate Democrat opposed to gay marriage, the Bronx’s Ruben Diaz, joins forces today with Conservative Party chairman Michael Long in a co-written National Review piece warning Republicans of the perils of enacting gay marriage. Since it’s directed at a conservative audience, the authors try to make a conservative case for opposing gay marriage. And as the past couple of years have shown, nothing riles up conservatives nowadays like the threat of a “government takeover,” so why not give that a shot?

Yes. They said it. They said it, presumably, without laughing. A government’s acknowledgment that it has no business deciding who should be allowed to get married would amount to … a government takeover.
