Last November, CBS made the move to push Harry Smith and Maggie Rodriguez out of the anchor roles at The Early Show in an effort to reboot the also-ran franchise. Smith worked as a CBS News reporter after that, but now he’s jumping ship to NBC to help Brian Williams on his new nighttime newsmagazine. (Maybe this was the final straw?) Although his profile has been lowered somewhat in recent months, this is a big defection for CBS. Smith has been with the network for 25 years and is one of its most identifiable faces.
