Bob Vander Plaats, a failed Iowa gubernatorial candidate and the president of the Christian organization FAMiLY LEADER, recently got Michele Bachmann and Rick Santorum to sign a pledge vowing, among other things, their “[v]igorous opposition to any redefinition of the Institution of Marriage.” (The pledge also implied that black families were doing better under slavery, until the wisdom of that passage was reconsidered.) In addition to traditional marriage, Vander Plaats, it may not come as a total shock, also loves jokes centered around gay slurs, like this one: “You know what my wife says? She says: Iowa, the state where you can’t smoke a fag, but you can marry one.”
