The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the research arm of the Pentagon, has developed an amazing aircraft, the Falcon Hypersonic Technology Vehicle 2, that can travel at Mach 20, or twenty times the speed of sound. If the small, spearhead-shaped craft worked as it’s supposed to, it could travel from New York to Los Angeles in twelve minutes. Maybe someday it will do that, but today it failed, for the second time, in a test flight over the Pacific Ocean. [LAT]
