Scientist Died Right Before Receiving the Nobel Prize

Immunologist Dr. Ralph M. Steinman was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine hours after he died — breaking the committee's rule against posthumous winners — but will be given the honor anyway because no one knew he'd passed away. Dr. Steinman died of pancreatic cancer, which he had been treating using his own discoveries. [NYT]
