Skateboarding Teen Ends Up in Coma Ahead of Anderson Appearance

Less than a month into his career as a daytime talk-show host, Anderson Cooper has a heavy heart after a teenager preparing for the show ended up in a coma. The boy was set to appear on Anderson in a segment about the science of the teenage brain and in preparation, according to a Gawker source, was encouraged by a producer "to go out and 'film the crazy stuff you do.'" While skateboarding, the kid seriously injured his head. A statement from the show clarified, "As part of our routine process, we ask guests for video footage and photos. We did not provide the family with a camera." Cooper, meanwhile, was more sympathetic: "I was very saddened to hear the news of this accident, and want to express my deepest concerns for the teenager who was injured," he said in a personal statement. "I take this situation seriously, and my thoughts and prayers for his health, well-being and recovery are with him and his family."
