A few years ago, the shoulders of German Chancellor Angela Merkel endured an unprovoked and seemingly painful massage from George W. Bush. More recently, they were soaked by about a thousand beers, more or less, at an Ash Wednesday gathering. Next month, Merkel’s shoulders will be attacked by a flock of angry magpies.
