Santorum Finds Some Money Under The Sofa

BRENTWOOD, NH - JANUARY 04: Republican presidential candidate, former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum arrives at a town hall meeting on "Faith, Family and Freedom" at Rockingham County Nursing Home January 4, 2012 in Brentwood, New Hampshire. Santorum continued his campaign in New Hampshire for the upcoming primary election after he finished second in the Iowa Caucus, losing to Mitt Romney by only eight votes. I’ve been saying that the only chance Rick Santorum has to defeat Mitt Romney would be to start collecting gobs of cash. Will it happen? Santorum announced today that he raised $250,000 online overnight.

I’m not sure if Santorum was sucking on his pinkie finger when he announced this six-figure sum, but the effect is the opposite of impressive. For some perspective, Mitt Romney and his allies spent about $15 million on television ads alone in Florida. So Santorum would need to keep raising as much as he raised the night of his shocking trifecta of wins every day for two months to equal just the television budget Romney and his allies deployed in that one state.
