Ann Romney usually makes her husband meatloaf cakes on his birthday. But today, on Mitt’s 65th, Ann and Mitt are campaigning in the Deep South before tomorrow’s primaries in Mississippi and Alabama, and Mitt’s campaign announced that the couple probably won’t “have a chance to sit down to a nice, home-cooked dinner — but that doesn’t mean you cant.” If you’d like to re-create the magic of a Romney birthday dinner in the privacy of your own home (plentiful and adorable grandchildren not included), head to Ann’s Pinterest for the recipe. But meatloaf cakes were hardly the main event of Mitt’s big 6-5 (especially because it doesn’t seem like anyone is actually eating them). Romney’s campaign confirmed today that he will not enroll in Medicare and will instead keep his private insurance plan. His campaign also created a birthday card for Mitt and started a Twitter hashtag, #HBDMitt, which has not exactly gone viral. “I, along with 12 other Americans, would love to wish @mittromney a [sic] hbd. #hbdmitt” one young man tweeted.
Romney spent his birthday campaigning ahead of tomorrow’s primaries, hugging Southern ladies and telling supporters at a stop in Alabama about his love for catfish. “I had catfish for the second time,” he said, “it was delicious, just like the first time.” Tomorrow’s contests in Mississippi and Alabama are looking extremely close. According to a PPP report today, Gingrich is barely leading Romney, 33 percent to 31 percent, in Mississippi. In Alabama, Romney is polling at 31 percent, Gingrich at 30 percent, and Santorum at 29 percent. #HBDMitt!
