Enoch Williams, the former five-term Democratic councilman for central Brooklyn, died this past week at his home in Florida, according to the Times’ obituary. He is perhaps best remembered for much-criticized statements he made in the eighties linking the spread of AIDS to the gay rights movement, as well as his successful push for the 1994 smoking ban in city restaurants and offices.
