NBC Fires Producer Responsible for Edited 911 Call

After a week of near-silence, NBC News has fired a Miami-based producer for misleadingly editing the 911 call made by George Zimmerman on the night of Trayvon Martin’s death. The doctored tape, which was broadcast on the Today show, made it seem as though Zimmerman volunteered that Martin “[looked] black,” when, in fact, he mentioned Martin’s race in response to a question from the 911 dispatcher. According to the New York Times, “The people with direct knowledge of the firing characterized the misleading edit as a mistake, not a purposeful act.”
