After ABC’s Good Morning America announced Thursday that Katie Couric would guest host this week, her former colleagues over at NBC’s Today show looked to up the ante with a new co-host of their own: the rogue from Wasilla, the Mama-Grizzly-in-chief herself, the one and only Sarah Palin. While Palin is only slated to join Matt Lauer, Hoda, and the gang on Tuesday — to “reveal a different side of her,” the promo reads — the NBC morning juggernaut also dangled the promise of the return of a “surprise legend” to morning television on Monday, all part of a continuing effort to hold off its upstart ABC rival, which has steadily closed the ratings gap. But as for the rest of the week, it’s mostly tried and tired fare like Octomom and Kim Kardashian, with a little Nicki Minaj thrown in to keep the mothballs away.
