Sho Yano, a 21-year-old University of Chicago student, made headlines this weekend for becoming the youngest M.D. in history. Only he isn’t. The prodigy who began his medical studies at age 12 will don a silly cap this week, but he will only become the youngest to graduate from the University of Chicago’s prestigious Pritzker School of Medicine. The national distinction actually belongs to Dr. Bala Ambati, who in 1995, at age 17, completed his studies at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. Tough break for doctor-to-be Yano. Why bother getting an M.D. at 21 if Dr. Ambati will steal all the great Doogie Howser jokes?
