Metro-North Operator Not Stressing, Reads Newspaper

How does driving a train work these days, anyway? On a Metro-North line into Grand Central yesterday, the operator made it look way easy, reading a newspaper “cover to cover,” according to one rider freaked out enough to take a video. Some bells ding, the professional glances up, hits a few buttons, and goes back to Garfield. Best job ever — until some jumpy passenger snitches. The MTA said “reading anything, texting or using cell phones while operating a train is obviously not acceptable. Metro-North will take action to ensure this does not happen again.” Podcast it is.
