Rodney Alcala, the convicted serial killer, is scheduled to arrive in New York this afternoon to face charges for two additional murders. Alcala has been on death row for decades after being convicted of killing four women and a 12-year-old girl in California, but was charged in Manhattan early last year in a pair of cold cases from 1971 and 1977.

Alcala boarded a plane this morning bound for the city accompanied by (hopefully many) U.S. Marshals, and may appear in State Supreme Court today. He’s suspected in the deaths of two 23-year-old women: Cornelia Michel Crilley, who was raped and strangled, and Ellen Jane Hover, who went missing and was found dead in Westchester a year later. In 1978, Alcala, an amateur photographer and former NYU student, appeared as a contestant on The Dating Game. He won.
