Scenes From Times Square’s Pussy Riot Protest

Demonstrators around the world today are rallying in support of Pussy Riot, the Russian punk band sentenced to two years in prison for holding an anti-Putin guerrilla performance in a major Moscow church this past March. In New York, about 40 people gathered outside the Russian consulate, leading to three arrests after police “repeatedly warned the crowd to get off the sidewalk and to take off their masks.” The rest of the group then marched down to Times Square with signs like “Welcome to Pussia” and “We Are All Hooligans.” Photographer Jim Kiernan was on the scene.
