John Heilemann on Last Word: Sorry Cuomo, Democrats Want Clinton in 2016

While Hillary Clinton still claims that she isn’t planning to run for president in 2016, on Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell last night New York’s John Heilemann said the nomination is essentially hers for the taking. As he discusses in this week’s cover story, Democratic voters got to pick between two historic possibilities in 2008: the first plausible African-American candidate or the first plausible Democratic woman president. Though they went with the former “by a hair,” many Democrats “believe it’s time for a woman.” That’s bad news for other 2016 Democratic hopefuls. “There are a lot of New York donors who love both of them,” says Heilemann. “But no one, if they have to choose, is going to choose Andrew Cuomo over Hillary Clinton.”
