McAfee Denied Asylum, Hospitalized for Suspected Heart Attack

McAfee en route to the hospital.

In the latest installment in the John McAfee saga, the Most Interesting Tech Mogul in the World was rushed from a Guatemalan detention center to a hospital after complaining of chest pains. Reuters reports that his lawyer, Telesforo Guerra, said McAfee had suffered two mild heart attacks and an assistant found him lying on the ground, unable to move or speak. However, McAfee had been posting on his blog at the time the attack supposedly occurred. “I don’t think a heart attack prevents one from using one’s blog,” said Guerra.

After McAfee was examined at a police-run hospital, Guerra revealed that he was only suffering from “stress, hypertension and tachycardia (an abnormally fast heartbeat).” “I’m not a doctor. I’m just telling you what the doctors told me,” he added. The attack might have been brought on by the news that Guatemalan authorities have denied McAfee’s request for political asylum. Several hours earlier, McAfee wrote on his blog, “Please email the President of Guatemala and beg him to allow the court system to proceed, to determine my status in Guatemala, and please support the political asylum that I am asking for,” along with a form letter written in “polite Spanish.”

In case the letter writing campaign doesn’t work out, McAfee’s legal team is preparing a last-ditch legal effort. According to the Associated Press, they say they’ll appeal the denial of asylum to Guatemala’s constitutional court. The court has 48 hours to make a decision, so stay tuned for more updates from McAfee on his new friendship with his Guatemalan warden and the Israeli bodyguards watching over his 20-year-old girlfriend. At this rate, we’re expecting McAfee’s long-lost twin to turn up any day now.
