Terrence Howard Needs an Acre

I just think that people need a good acre of space,” Terrence Howard said, “ya know?” Riding in a filled-to-capacity elevator just after the premiere of his New York–based movie The Brave One he told Daily Intel, “I don’t really like a lot of people surrounding me.” On cue, elevator-mate and co-star Naveen Andrews politely backed away. Earlier, on the red carpet, Howard told TV crews “I’m not a New Yorker, I’ll never be a New Yorker, there’s too many people. But I have a good time in New York.” He admitted that Manhattan has been the backdrop of his dearest memories — his first audition, falling in love with his wife, the birth of his first daughter — but it’s obvious none of those events took place in a prewar studio apartment. “Your next-door neighbor should never hear you unless you want them to hear you,” says Howard. “People need a little more land, they shouldn’t be living on top of each other.” Suspicious that we’d write something about him hating the city, he assured us, “It’s a nice place to live, but I like the farm.” —Maggie Gray
