Michael Strahan Is Officially Retiring From the Giants

Giants’ defensive end Michael Strahan announced his decision to retire in an interview posted this morning on FoxSports.com. In doing so, he avoids the drama of last season’s holdout, in which he skipped training camp entirely before reporting to the team five days before their opening game. That decision, of course, worked out pretty well, what with the Super Bowl win and all. Strahan, who was voted to the Pro Bowl seven times, goes out as the Giants’ all-time sacks leader, and thanks to the generosity of Brett Favre, the NFL’s single-season leader as well. Just as important, his departure also opens up some column inches for Jeremy Shockey’s own will-he-or-won’t-he mini-camp drama, as we can only handle one football story line at a time when it’s 94 degrees and sunny out. —Joe DeLessio
