California is running out of cash, and since the credit crisis has made it impossible for the state to secure a short-term loan, movie star turned Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has told the federal government he may need to borrow a little money from them in the coming weeks. Like, say, $7 billion. “Absent a clear resolution to this financial crisis,” Schwarzenegger wrote in an e-mail to Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson Thursday evening, “California and other states may be unable to obtain the necessary level of financing to maintain government operations and may be forced to turn to the federal treasury for short-term financing.” He then added they should give it to him if they vant to live.
