At Citigroup’s “town hall” meeting today, CEO Vikram Pandit likened the bank’s shedding of 53,000 jobs to a kind of … weight-loss regime. “We have spent the last year ‘getting fit,’ are more streamlined, and are in a strong competitive position to take advantage of future opportunities,” he said. “We will be the long-term winner in the industry.” At least he didn’t say “trimming the fat” or “cutting out the deadweight.” Except he sort of did, didn’t he?
