Missing Hedge-Fund Manager ‘Does Not Want to Be Found,’ Police Say

Crafty septuagenarian Arthur Nadel, the Florida-based manager of six private hedge funds that managed more than $350 million, disappeared seven days ago, the day he was supposed to hand over several million dollars in redemptions. He left behind a note for his wife indicating that he planned to commit suicide, but then later his car was found empty at the airport, and his partner says most of the money in the funds is gone. Now the FBI has taken over, as the Sarasota police have basically thrown up their hands. ”He doesn’t want to be found,” Sarasota Sheriff Chuck Lesaltato observed sagely. Wonder why that is.
