A-Rod’s steroid revelations have so dominated the “screw-up athlete” portion of the sports pages lately that it’s easy to forget he’s not the only troubled superstar employed by one of the local teams. So thank you, Drew Rosenhaus, for reminding us that Plaxico Burress is still a member of the New York Giants organization. Though maybe not for long: Rosenhaus, Burress’s agent, has contacted every team in the NFL to let them know that his client is available for trade. Of course, Rosenhaus is in no way authorized to do this; Burress is still property of the Giants until they say otherwise.
But you could forgive Rosenhaus for thinking he could play God with his clients; after all, he’s done it before with Terrell Owens. And when you think about it, letting Rosenhaus orchestrate a trade wouldn’t be a bad idea, since he’s also identified Anquan Boldin, another of his clients, as tradable. Rosenhaus realizes that a trade between the two would be mutually beneficial: The Cardinals, faced with playing an unhappy Boldin, would once again be able to field two motivated, star receivers. And the Giants would get their desperately needed go-to receiver — this time one who knows better than to wear sweatpants to a nightclub.
