Billionaire Ron Baron, who broke the American record for most expensive residential-real-estate purchase two years ago when he paid $103 million for a 40-acre estate on Further Lane in East Hampton, now has until May 31 to tear down 500 feet of an 845-foot retaining wall that he illegally built after razing a 3,000-year-old protected dune. He has until May 5 to fight to keep the remaining 345 feet, which are necessary so that the lawn around his guest house will be flat. Not that you care, really, but we just thought you'd be comforted to know that at least some people in the Hamptons still have enough money to be insanely, heedlessly frivolous. [East Hampton Star]
