Banks Could Start Paying Back TARP Funds As Early As Next Week

The Federal Reserve Bank is in talks with several major banks about the prospect of returning billions of dollars of TARP loans, with some of the debtors hoping to give money back as early as next week, reports the Post. Morgan Stanley CEO John Mack wants to repay $10 billion now that his firm raised $8 billion in debt and equity. The government stress tests ruled that it needed to raise only $1.8 billion to pass. According to sources, Mack has already submitted the request to the Fed in writing. [NYP]
