Maine State House Passes Marriage-Equality Bill

After last week’s passage of a marriage-equality bill by the Maine State Senate, the measure was voted through today by the State House of Representatives, 89–57. After passing final approval again in the Senate tomorrow, it will head to the desk of Democratic governor John Baldacci, who has not announced whether he will sign it. If he does, Maine will become the fifth state nationally to legalize marriage equality, the fourth in New England, and the second to do so through the legislative process. [Portland Press Herald]
