Disgraced Hoboken Mayor Peter Cammarano Concedes It Might Be a Good Idea to Step Down

Peter Cammarano, the young Hoboken mayor who was revealed to have taken $25,000 in bribes when he was arrested last week as part of a massive FBI sweep in New Jersey, has agreed to step down from his position. Cammarano, who had only been in office for 23 days, had bragged of his popularity in conversations with an FBI informant, the complaint against him revealed. “Right now, the Italians, the Hispanics, the seniors are locked down,” he’d said shortly before the election. “Nothing can change that now … I could be, uh, indicted, and I’m still gonna win 85 to 95 percent of those populations.” Approval-rating numbers for Cammarano are unknown at this time.
