Michael Haegerty is an incumbent Syracuse common councilor. That means, in NYC terms, he's on the City Council. Up in Syracuse, you need only 335 signatures to get on the Democratic Party line on the ballot, which has prime placement in the top few rows. He had twenty volunteers canvassing the city, gathering up the necessary imprimaturs. When the deadline came, he turned in his petition for the ballot spot, expecting to easily surpass the limit. He didn't. By one signature. And when he thought about it, he hadn't signed his own petition. Now he'll only be listed as a Working Families Party candidate.

Remember when life was simple?
