The U.S. Census Dumps Acorn via E-mail

The U.S. Census Bureau officially severed ties with the community-organizing organization Acorn after the apparent last straw that was this week’s “pimps and hos” scandal. In a letter (but there was probably also an e-mail!) to Acorn, U.S. Census director Robert Groves said Acorn had become a “distraction” that might negatively impact the 2010 census. And who’s to blame the U.S. Census for smiling a big wincey smile while stepping slowly away from an organization that has become, at least PR-wise, the Lindsay Lohan of community groups? [NYT] [WSJ]
