If the Tea-Party Party Were a Real Party, People Would Vote for It

According to a Rasmussen poll, more people would vote for a generic Tea Party congressional candidate than a generic Republican congressional candidate in 2010. Among independents, the Tea Party candidate is more popular than both the generic Democrat and Republican. The Tea Party has actually registered to run on the ballot in Florida, and its followers are competing in Republican primaries around the country, but the main problem we see for them (besides the fact that they will serve as spoilers for the Republicans in many three-way races) is the name. The unintentional repetition in “Tea-Party Party” is just unfortunate, and may disorient elderly voters. [Rasmussen]
